Pech Grisou is a unique and secluded Dordogne holiday rental, offering complete privacy in a stunning natural setting. This historic farmhouse, enclosed by a barn and traditional outbuildings, is let as a whole and enjoys a peaceful position on a spur between two valleys, with panoramic views across the Dordogne Valley. The property lies within the Causses du Quercy Natural Park, a designated UNESCO Global Geopark, making it ideal for nature lovers, walkers and couples seeking tranquility.
Surrounded by unspoilt countryside yet close to world-class attractions, Pech Grisou is just 15 minutes from Rocamadour, the iconic medieval pilgrimage site built dramatically into a sheer cliff face. The region is rich in medieval villages, historic towns, châteaux and prehistoric caves, making this an exceptional base for exploring southwest France.
The farmhouse retains its authentic character and historic charm. On the ground floor is an open-plan lounge, dining area and kitchen, featuring original elements such as a large stone fireplace, stone sink and narrow tapered windows. A medium-sized bedroom with ensuite shower room is located in the converted attic (please note there is a single step down from the bed area to the bathroom).
Four steps up from the lounge is a spacious additional room — formerly a barn — with double doors opening onto a covered terrace, ideal for outdoor dining and evening relaxation. Fly screens are fitted to all windows and doors.
The enclosed garden offers four private terraces, including a roofed terrace, a sunny morning terrace, a space for sun loungers, and a west-facing terrace with sweeping views over walnut orchards and the cliffs beyond the River Dordogne. Mature trees provide natural shade, and the property sits at the end of a no-through road, ensuring total peace and privacy. Outdoor furniture, sun loungers, parasols and a portable BBQ are provided.
Inside, guests will find guidebooks, detailed walking maps, novels, DVDs and Hi-Fi connections — perfect for a slow, relaxing stay. The surrounding countryside is ideal for walking and cycling, with countless trails across limestone plateaux and quiet valleys rich in orchids, butterflies and birdlife including hoopoe, nightingale, cuckoo and golden oriole.
The location is exceptional for sightseeing. Nearby highlights include Collonges-la-Rouge, Autoire, Loubressac, Carennac, and historic towns such as Sarlat, Martel and Gourdon. Canoeing on the River Dordogne is easily accessible, with hire points close by, and swimming is available at the riverside campsite in St Sozy. Famous caves including Padirac, Lacave, Pech Merle and Cougnac are all within easy reach.
Pech Grisou itself has a fascinating history, dating back to at least the 17th century, and is now the sole surviving building of a former hamlet. Much of its original character remains, with furnishings reflecting the style of the 19th century.
Parking is available adjacent to the house in shaded areas, or via a lower driveway leading to a garage beneath the barn.
A car is essential. The property is easily reached via the A20 autoroute (Souillac exit, 20 minutes), with Brive Vallée de la Dordogne Airport just 30 minutes away. Shops, restaurants and markets are close by, including the Michelin-listed Pont de l’Ouysse restaurant near Belcastel.
Pech Grisou is best suited to couples seeking a peaceful, romantic and private holiday in the Dordogne. With its history, scenery and serene setting, it offers an unforgettable escape from modern life.
